This study discusses the institutions of marriage, civil partnership and cohabitation in the Maltese legal system. Civil partnerships were legally sanctioned already in 2014, and later the possibility of legalizing a concubinage relationship was introduced. As we read in the presented expert opinion: what is fundamental from the point of view of the state and the interests of interested persons is that these persons have the opportunity to obtain certain legal certainty regarding their legal situation, shared housing, alimony and child care rules.
