The institution of parenthood in the legal systems of selected EU countries

The last seminar held in 2023 as part of the project Marriage in the prism of the doctrine of imperative requirements was devoted to the institution of parenthood. This issue is the subject of expert opinions prepared by representatives of academia, which are presented on the project website. The seminar focused on problems related to its implementation in a cross-border context. The institutions of parenthood in Polish law were presented consistently, but from the perspective of procedural problems related to parental abduction. This was followed by a comparative legal analysis with particular emphasis on the relationship between parents and children. The very difficult topic of surrogacy in Spanish law was also raised, but it also showed the international scale of the phenomenon. The next presentation attempted to analyze Poland’s solutions regarding the legal nature, effects, and content of a child’s birth certificate in a cross-border context. The last lecture referred to the institution of parenthood in civil law relations.
