The second year of the project Marriage in the Prism of Imperative Requirements Doctrine was devoted to a broader analysis of the solutions adopted by EU member states regarding the position of same-sex marriages and registered partnerships in the laws of EU member states. This issue is particularly important at present in the context of the latest judgments of the European Court of Human Rights emphasizing the need to create legal instruments legalizing civil partnerships in a form chosen by the states parties to the Convention. Consequently, the seminar presented the solutions of selected EU member states relating to this issue, including the legislation of Germany, France, the Czech Republic, and Slovakia. In addition, the impact of EU law on the issue under analysis was explained and reference was made to Pope Francis’ widely commented position on the position of same-sex unions in the Catholic Church.ia 2023.
