In the expert opinion titled: „The definition of marriage and its impact on the institution of parenthood in the law of the Scandinavian States,” we can read about an extremely progressive way of understanding the institution of marriage. Nevertheless, the overarching goal of the aforementioned institution is to protect the family and children. As Professor Malgorzata Podolak writes: „the economic, psychological, sociological, legal and, above all, cultural changes taking place in these countries have affected the perception of the family as the basic social group.
