Slovenia is one of seven countries (along with Croatia, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Kosovo and North Macedonia) created after the collapse of the Socialist Federation of the Republic of Yugoslavia in 1990. Slovenia has passed a milestone in defining and understanding marriage from the traditional (conservative) approach – confirmed twice by the results of referendums in 2012 and 2015 – to the liberal one resulting from the judgment of the Constitutional Court of June 16, 2022.
